The dream of cadets in maritime training institutions in Nigerian to get the best available nautical training received a boost last week ,as the federal government has entered into partnership with a private firm, to provide state of the art simulators for training of the cadets.
This was disclosed by the Senior Special Adviser on President Goodluck Jonathan on Maritime Affairs; Mr. Leke Oyewole.
Oyewole told journalists in Lagos, that the simulators are basically for Nigerian cadets from both private and public maritime institutions in the country.
He said: “Many of our cadets have not seen the latest and modern simulators as it relates to shipping in the world before, but with the company taking-off in Apapa, anytime from next month , they have simulators”
“The scenario there is that they will have access to control cargo ships at the end of the day”
“The purpose is just to increase and build the level of exposure and training of the cadets”
Disclosing the name of the firm to the media, Oyewole said, “We have encouraged a private company; Hudson Trident Limited to set up a simulation centre in Apapa where our cadets can train on any type of vessel in the world on simulation machine”.
“Making sure that when they get that kind of vessel in Nigeria, they will be ready to take on the vessel and pilot it safely”.
He added that simulator centre is open for cadets, Nigerian Navy and others, who have passion in shipping and marine field.
Oyewole further assured that the company will be operational in the next one month.
